On the 17th July, the school council visited Laudato Si at Worsley Old Hall.  We had an amazing afternoon with Emily, who showed us all the fantastic recycling work that they do at the centre.  Our afternoon started with a walk around the gardens looking at and learning all about the plants and flowers that they were growing. Emily then set us the task of finding all the signs that were scattered around the garden. These signs told us the names and origins of the plants.

We then had a walk in the forest area of the centre. Emily asked us to have a walk around and look and listen to all the different animals and look for bugs. She showed us how we could make musical instruments from everyday household objects.  The drums were fab.

Back to the classroom where we had to look for flowers that had fallen from the plants to make a bookmark. This was great fun. We used the flowers and hammered them onto the material. This left the flower imprint on our material.  Emily also explained that some of the flowers we had used were edible. We had a taste. They had a peppery taste to them.

Our next task was on the allotment. Here we learnt all about growing potatoes. We had a go at pulling up the potatoes. We even got to take some home for our tea.

We took lots of fabulous ideas back to school and can't wait to get started on ensuring that our school becomes eco-friendly.
